ArtReach Orlando!

Veer is a small business created by artists with the goal of supporting other artists. It is with that spirit that we have chosen to pledge an annual donation to a local organization who not only champions the arts, but provides young artists and communities with exceptional arts programming in Orange County, Florida. Molly and I have both worked within arts education in varied roles and have experienced how access to the arts can positively affect youth. We have also seen the gradual decline of art programming in public schools over the years, so it is with tremendous gratitude that, with your help, we can support ArtReach Orlando

ArtReach provides art programs for youth experiencing difficult economic and/or social situations who may not have access to the arts. Through the creative process, they explore the link between art, social justice, and healing. Many of their students struggle with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Through art and self-expression, youth can safely explore these issues and create personal solutions that develop their self-worth and emotional resilience. By fostering creativity, they are encouraging and empowering young people to imagine the positive changes they wish to see in their own lives, their communities, and the world.

Art education is more than teaching rudimentary skills and vocabulary. It not only helps develop a child's fine motor skills, but can improve their overall academic performance. It teaches our kids creative problem solving, develops critical thinking skills, and encourages cultural awareness. I have been a primary art teacher in public, private and homeschool settings, so this is a subject I am particularly invested in. Furthermore, I am keenly aware of how creating art (in any form) can help people heal from trauma. There is an opportunity for your mind and nervous system to rest when you make art and in this space it is possible to sift through and process your emotions whether it's intentional or not. Part of what moves me the most about ArtReach is their dedication to inclusivity and to their students social/emotional health. The work they do isn't focused on creating a product. It is focused on the process of creating and it is in this process that their students can safely explore their own identity and grow a stronger sense of self-esteem and confidence.

I encourage you to look into the different programs they provide. A portion of each purchase you make from the Veer shop will be donated to ArtReach, but there are lots of other ways to contribute, if you are able. You could donate healthy snacks for an art camp or perhaps even sponsor a scholarship! A little bit can help a lot.

Thank you for supporting the arts with us!
