Veer with us
Picture it: 2020 quarantine(s) Wherever You Are, USA or beyond.
What were you doing? What did you think about? Did you operate within a social bubble or were you alone? Were you Hunkering?
For us it was central Florida, each of us in our respective homes with our spouses and pets. We cooked, worked on house projects, worked on our art and tried to stay sane and avoid the plague. Early COVID times were scary. One of us is immunocompromised and the other has parents who are, so we were very boring and cautious.
Our friend group was accustomed to weekly rotating dinner parties or happy hours, so now Zoom was the thing we did. It was really fuckin' awkward. I hated it.
Eventually, as time went on and more information was available, we became comfortable with the idea of small gatherings with our bubble.
You were also navigating the pandemic, so some of this may sound familiar. Or, perhaps you took a different approach to COVID life. Either way, the quarantine period offered us, like many people, the opportunity to re-examine our achievements and goals. Were we where we wanted to be? Were we doing what we wanted to be doing? The answer was no to both and to the many other questions one is faced with when they are forced to step away from the day to day grind. I viewed it as a tremendous opportunity to reset and look at what was working and what wasn't and to catch-up on things that I had been neglecting. Basically, try to get my shit together.
It was a porch wine kind of night, a hot and humid one. It was one of those deeply intimate friend nights. Everyone was so connected. We talked about EVERYTHING. It was perfect...except for the distancing. When would hugging and kissing your friends be a thing again???
We didn’t want to continue down the same path and do the same thing once life got back to “normal.” We wanted to make big changes, but we needed to give ourselves permission first. Permission to jump ship, to fail and try again, to change course, to veer, and we did.
We wanted to be our own boss, figure out how to make a living as an artist (if that is actually even doable) and build a business that we were proud of. VEER was born out of the desire for art collaboration and to champion amazing artists. Our goal with VEER is to feature handmade goods from an ever changing group of artists and makers and offer you a reliable shopping experience for unique items to adorn your path....wherever it may lead. We also intend to donate a portion of our annual sales to ARTreach Orlando who offer exceptional art education for youth experiencing difficult economic and/or social situations who may not have access to the arts.
We are new. We are learning. We are artists...not the tech savvy kind. We will absolutely make mistakes, but we will try with all our might to make it right.
Thank you for joining us, we're so glad you're here...and thank you for your patience as we navigate this whole website thing.
xoxo, Molly & Jenna
